SERVE Update

Hello, sorry we have somewhat neglected this blog! We hope you have enjoyed seeing the pictures and we will be posting more even after SERVE is over. We have had a great week together even with the heat. The kids worked hard on each of their projects and we had a couple groups finish two! Our speaker Joe gave his final sermon last night and talked about putting Others in front, with Jesus, instead of ourselves. Everyone could relate and I think the youth and adults really enjoyed Joe's messages all throughout the week. We've really enjoyed having your kids here and we hope that they have also enjoyed their time in Kansas. Last night and this morning we started hearing the kids say they didn't want to go home, which to us is a sign of success! We ate lunch with the groups throughout the week and you could really tell as the week went on how much they were opening up to each other. I can't forget to mention our awesome leaders either! They have done such a great job with all of their small groups! We couldn't ask for better! Most of the groups finished early today so they got to hang out and just enjoy themselves this afternoon. Tonight we will have our last session of praise and worship and a time of open mic where the kids are welcome to share about their experience this week. After that we are going to do something a little different. We are hosting "Mr. Heartland SERVE", a "mangeant". Or pageant for men. They will be styling an outfit of choice, workwear, answer a fishbowl contest, and a few other fun things! Many of them have been to the thrift store today to get outfits, so we are in for quite the show! We hope you have enjoyed seeing our updates, even if they have been few, and seeing the pictures.

TONIGHT IS THE LAST NIGHT FOR EMAILS! NONE WILL BE DELIVERED TOMORROW!

Blessings,

The Heartland SERVE Host Team

Wednesday Pictures

Hey all!

It's been brought to my attention that I have not uploaded pictures as promptly as many of you may have liked. I apologize but you really need to stop staring at your computer wondering when the next update is. Just kidding!!! We had a great day away at Wilson Lake. I'm just now getting around to uploading pictures. There will be more to come tomorrow as soon as I get all of the photos floating around out there. Thanks for staying tuned with Heartland SERVE!  Also, if you are interested in downloading this week's photos, you can look at our Flickr albums listed below:

It's already Tuesday!

Hello everyone and thanks for checking out our page! I'm getting in trouble for not "blogging" recently but I'm sure people are more interested in the pictures than they are the writings! But, here we go anyways.... Over the last couple days the students have traveled with their small groups to their worksites each day to complete the tasks that we had lined up for them! Our projects consist of painting jobs, roofing, and tree and brush removal around a house! So far everyone is working great and managing to deal with the heat! The people we are working for are very deserving of our help and are extremely appreciative of everything that the leaders and students are doing! The people we are helping consist of people who have worked hard their entire life but are having trouble getting by at the time, people who are fighting cancer, people who have recently lost a spouse that had been battling cancer, a pregnancy center, and elderly people that really appreciate the help! We have had a great time at Praise & Worship as we hear from Joe and The Band! After praise and worship the participants break out into their small groups and have time to study and discuss the devotion for the day and to express their feelings. We feel like this is a very critical time for all of the participants! It was great the first night when a leader came back and said he had the best night of his life with the small group! We are blessed.... Tonight we will treat the leaders to a Leaders Night Out at the local River-bend Bed & Breakfast, unfortunately they do not get to stay the night... We have a delicious meal planned and a short massage planned for each leader! We hope they will enjoy their time, they deserve it! :D The students will be going to Strikers the local bowling alley for a couple hours of bowling and arcade games, I also hope they enjoy themselves! Overall it's been a great week so far if we set aside the fact of the extreme heat. Please keep us in your prayers! Blessings to you all, Jodi Koops Heartland Serve Host Team
